i was talking to a moth the other evening
he was trying to break into an electic light bulb
and fry himself on the wires
why do you fellows pull this stunt i asked him
because it is the conventional thing for moths or why
if that had been an uncovered candle instead
of an electric lightbulb you would now be a small
unsightly cinder have you no sense?
plenty of it he answered but at times we get tired
of using it we get bored with the routine
and crave beauty and excitement
fire is beauty
and we know that if we get too close it will kill us
but what does that matter is better to be happy
for a moment and be burned up with beauty
than to live a long time and be bored all the while
it is better to be a part of beauty
our attitude toward life is come easy go easy
we are like human beings used to be before they
became to civilized to enjoy themselves

was one of the best christmas presents i ever got...

Little Silver man killed in Tinton Falls crash

Police: 17-year-old lost control of car

By Michelle Sahn • GANNETT NEW JERSEY • February 19, 2009

TINTON FALLS — A 56-year-old Little Silver man died Wednesday evening when a teenager
lost control of the car he was driving, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the
man's vehicle, police said

The vehicle driven by the 17-year-old Holmdel boy hit a second car and then flipped over, police said.

Vincent Dimicelli, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on Newman Springs Road, said Capt. David Trevena.

RELATED

The other two drivers were taken to local hospitals for treatment, police said.

Police said the cause of the crash remains under investigation, and no summonses were issued Wednesday, but a preliminary investigation indicates speed appears to have been a factor.

Around 6:10 p.m. the 17-year-old - whose name was not released - was driving a 2006 Chrysler 300 eastbound on Newman Springs Road when he lost control of the car and struck a small curb that divides the two sides of the road near Hance Avenue, police said.

The Chrysler crossed into the westbound lanes, where it collided with a 1997 Toyota Avalon driven by Dimicelli and a 2006 Honda, driven by Amy Honig, 37, of the Lincroft section of Middletown, said Trevena.

Then the Chrysler overturned and slid back into the eastbound lane, he said.

Honig was taken to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank and the boy was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information about it is asked to call traffic safety Sgt. David Scrivanic at (732) 542-3400, Ext. 291.

Almost everyone coins or uses expressions that make sense to only a few people. What word or phrase do you use most often that you have to explain the meaning of to others?

it's getting pretty bad when you're not tired, but you'll take a 2-hour nap
because you just don't feel like being awake or being alive. you don't have the same
willpower to get shit done and every half-started project just sits on the ground
and rots. then you end up tired from the nap and sit around typing shit up on
livejournal instead of studying for midterms or doing the 18-article summaries & opinion
paragraphs that have been due for at least a week now. my eyes are bloodshot and it hurts
to study for shit. my head feels like its filled with rocks & mud. shit's just fucking annoying & all
i wanna do is sleep until everythings warm & good.

I once knew someone who was the type of person you'd find at a riot in Tompkins Square Park on Avenue A, burning money or yelling through a megaphone. He was a people person, even if he scared most people away with his huge duct-taped steel-toe boots and stud-encrusted vest covered with band patches. He had a passion for chaos and causing trouble, but was not without reason; he was much more intelligent than he seemed. His family was considered lower-class and they rented a small house not too far from mine. He was known by a majority of the police force in the Middletown Township area. His name was Derrick Van Sojka and he has been one of the most influential people in my life.

I met him in school and after having accepted his radical appearance, we became good friends. Our conversations grew from casual talk into debates over music, politics, and cultural affairs--both recent and historical. Later on, when he went away to a correctional facility in Viera, Florida, we kept a constant correspondence through letters. He urged me to read Howard Zinn and Noam Chomsky and write back my opinions on their ideas and also to further my knowledge of politics. I wrote back asking his views on topics such as Communism, the Bush administration and a number of political theories. He finally returned home with hopes of keeping a low profile and staying out of trouble. However, already a target in the area and lacking stable relations with his father, he could not find the peace he desired. Late in 2007, Derrick moved to Pennsylvania in hopes of starting over, promising to return and visit.

Unfortunately, he never had the chance to return. Derrick was crossing a road with a broken street light when he was hit by a car; the blow left him in critical condition with the likely chance of brain damage if he survived. On February 1st, 2008 his life support was disconnected. He passed away at the age of nineteen, leaving behind a legacy as if he had lived a lifetime. The impact of his death was felt by each person that had ever encountered him. I had known him for five years, but it felt like I had lost someone I had known my entire life. Since that day, I have eased the shock and pain of his untimely death by remembering that he died with no regrets, as he had always said he would.

Derrick's influence in my life has made me a stronger and more open-minded person. Since his death, I have done my best to take up any opportunity I can to meet a variety of people, to embrace diversity and to avoid existing within a clique. My friendships have strengthened now that the true value of them has been made clear. I have realized that whether or not our time on earth is predestined, it is vital to make the most of our lives while we can. Above all, I am determined to pursue my desires rather than accept the opinions of others and to live like Derrick: with no regrets.

Writer's Block: Titular Heroes

Kurt Vonnegut's books have great titles, like Breakfast of Champions and Slaughterhouse Five. If your life was a novel, what would the title be?

Strawberries & Cigarettes.

I mean, I'm procrastinating anyway..
So I have deas for 3 future tattoos, one hopefully coming up soon:

1. The Eye of Ra/Horus on the back of my neck.

2. Scarab beetles as the typical matching hip tattoos.

3. A Derrick memorial tattoo, the last symbol in that alphabet is used as a period;
kind symbolizing "the end".

OK I lied, I've also thought about getting an ohm..
 (in b&w, of course.)

&& i've had an idea where i get my horoscope symbol on the top of my foot & then each of the other ones on my toes..
tough topic bc i don't have 11 toes.

Anyway, yeah, back to work now that I've vomited all of these ideas out.

Goal.

I think I'm going to try & stop answering my phone as much and study more.
That is subject to change by tomorrow, but I hope I start taking my own advice.

I had this fucking horrible dream when I took a nap after school today..
There were multiple parts, but the last one that had me wake up with my heart racing & gasping for air was kinda like this:

My grandma was in her kitchen (in Poland), slouched backwards on a stool leaning against the refrigerator semi-responsive, not moving but drooling and rambling to herself.. My grandpa was sitting in front of her tapping her knee with a wooden block-type object, trying to get a reflex. Each time he'd hit her knee harder and harder and she'd giggle in her ridiculous stupor. Finally, he just got angry and threw the block  and it hit her in the chest. After that she kind of grabbed her chest and screamed "OCHHH MOJE SERCE!" (ow my heart) and literally, I suppose, deflated and shrunk, then went limp. Everyone (i don't know who everyone was) gasped and thought she was dead. Then she got up with her shrunken body and sunken in eyes and started SCREAMING at the top of her lungs, one of those wretched horror-movie screams filled with agony.

That's when I woke up & hit myself a few times while gasping for air.
I have no idea what that dream may have spurred from, but it was absolutely. fucking. horrifying.

life otherwise, fuck it.
gwar's tomorrow & i'm not even as excited as i should be.

*However, the moon HAS been looking rather charming recently.
I'm going to miss him once he's gone again.

well i would've gotten home relatively early, but a good friend whom i haven't seen in what seems like ages happened to show up & we had to talk. it was uplifting, to see someone else there for a change even if the topics we discussed were a bit depressing.
derrick's gone, but the impact he's had on everyone is incredible.
i've confirmed that i am done with walt.
though, i wish i could talk him out of his serious alcoholism & help him stop fucking himself over, i can't do much about it.
besides that, i'm fucking myself over right with school, work, major lack of sleep.
i'm covered in bruises, most of which i can't figure out how i got.
there's a bruise on one side of my skull that's really painful & i seriously want to know how it got there.

last night, i could've gotten a nice full 6 hours of sleep.. but the sleep i experienced was half concious with such crazy dreams that i'd have to periodically wake myself up and make sure i was really just dreaming.

dilemma if i wanna go to against me! or not.. eh.
college apps.. i needa start those.

since the screaming contest i had with my mom, i don't get bothered about being home at 10 on school nights.
it's nice, she's gotten new sleeping pills as well.

i suppose i'm going to get back to work because sitting in every class trying to keep my eyes in focus gets very annoying.

the moon is moving into scorpio & tomorrow it's full.

i'm tireed as fuck, but i'm online and typing here..
instead of studying for english or doing my physics hw.

court was one of the most boring experiences i've ever had.
8:30-stand around
9:05-wait to talk to the prosecutor, then sit down & wait for everyone else to talk to the prosecutor.
who knows when that was over.
around maybe 10:30? the judge came out, talked really really really fast & went through page by page.
i was on page 7.
i talked to her, paid my fine of a whooping fucking $439.00 for NO POINTS and i was off to school around 11:15.

i'm very glad that's over with.
i cleaned my car today.
walt came over.

& whatever
but now school work...

everyone cross their fingers for no points, otherwise the future isn't looking good.
work starts this thursday-eric clapton. i'm happy i'll finally have an income again, but eric clapton for the first show? psh.
time to start looking for job #2. gas prices are fucking skyrocketing.

NARNIA: Prince Caspian!
that lasted foorrrevvvvvverrrrrr, me & walt went today; started around 7:10 ended around 9:35.
